It was such a hot sunny day! I was roasting just standing in the shade watching this mallard and her chicks. The chicks had been sitting on the end of the log huddled together but I guess they also were hot in the sun. So one by one they waddled over to momma, who was laying down and shoved their way under her. They are pretty big now, so finally she had to stand up to fit them all under her. She used her body to give them shade for about five minutes and then finally decide to take her chicks into the shade, so off the log she went and they quickly followed her.
